On Jan. 4, 2017, two girls were involved in a fight at Central Mall in Ft. Smith that caused parents to have new concerns for their children’s safety.

The girls involved in the fight are both minors under the age of 18, and both are students at Kimmons Junior High School; their names will remain anonymous. The altercation took place at the entrance to food court at Central Mall. The incident was recorded by another person who was present at the time. The girl who was attacked ran to Dillard’s Department Store and called the authorities.  The other girl has been charged with third-degree battery.

The police and mall officials are considering possible policy changes to mall rules to help ensure safety.
