Hollywood’s Biggest Night

The 89th annual Academy Awards Ceremony was held Sunday night Feb 26 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, and was broadcast on ABC. The show, which honors films released in 2016 was broadcast in 225 countries. The show was hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel, and singer Justin Timberlake kicked things off with a performance that got the audience on its feet.

    The first award presented was
for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and went to Mahershala Ali for his role in
Moonlight. Best Supporting Actress went to Viola Davis for the film Fences in a role she played on Broadway as well.

The biggest moment of the night came with the final award, Oscar for Best Picture. Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty announced the winners of the coveted prize. To no big surprise, Warren Beatty read off La La Land as the winner for Best Picture. A moment later, as the winners took the stage, it was pointed out that Moonlight had, indeed won the award. The envelope for Best Actress had been accidentally handed to Beatty and he, with a moment of pause and some confusion, announced Emma Stone and La La Land. Once corrected, the stunned cast and crew of Moonlight took the stage to celebrate their big moment.
