A Tale as Old as Time

On Mar. 17,  2017, Disney released a live-action re-telling of their 1991 animated classic “Beauty and the Beast”.  The film updates classic characters from the tale as old as time for a new generation. Staying true to the original music director Bill Condon updated the score by adding four new songs from composers Alan Menken, the late Howard Ashman, and lyricist Tim Rice. The live-action “Beauty and the Beast” adds on to the original by adding in a few new scenes including one that gives the backstory on what happened to Belle’s mother.

The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who tries to win Belle over; Oscar winner Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s crazy, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston’s aide; Golden Globe nominee Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra; Oscar nominee Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and two-time Academy Award winner Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.
