Loss of a Legend

     On October 2, 2017, we lost a legendary classic rock star; Tom Petty. Best known for his band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (1976- ); Petty was also the creator of Mudcrutch (1970-1975) and a member of The Traveling Wilburys (1988-1990).  

    Thomas Petty was born October 20 1950 In Gainesville, Florida. His love for Rock and Roll was inspired by the King of Rock; Elvis Presley. He was also greatly influenced by the Beatles due to them working so well in a band.  

    Throughout his career Petty has had over 18 award nominations and won several awards including: The MTV Michael Jackson Vanguard Award (1994), a Grammy for  Best Male Rock Vocal (1996), and the Billboard Century Music Award (2005). Some of Petty’s biggest hits with his group the Heartbreakers were: Free Fallin’, I Won’t Back Down, American Girl, and Stop Draggin’ My  Heart Around, a duet with Stevie Nicks.

    Petty passed away from cardiac arrest at UCLA Medical Center in Santa Barbara, California.
