On December 5, 2017, Russia’s national anthem and flag was banned from the Winter Olympics by the International Olympic Committee. Russia can still have participants in the games, but if they win they will not have a flag or their anthem played.
Russia can not have government officials attend the Winter Olympics. Any athlete from Russia that receives special dispensation can participate as a single individual wearing an Olympic suit of his or her county. If the participant from Russia wins any medals the official Olympic record book will not record the medals as being won by Russia. Russia is not allowed because they have been doping their athletes to put them at ease and have also been accused of using steroids.
