Woman Nearly Sucked from Plane Window

On April 18, 2018, 32,000 feet over Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the unthinkable happened. An engine to a Southwest Airlines plane burst, sending debris hurtling into the side of the plane. The debris damaged the side of the plane and broke one window. A woman, later identified as Jennifer Riordan, was sucked out the shattered window. The reaction from the passengers was immediate, with 7-8 people joining to pull her back through and into the plane. Unfortunately, they were too late to save her. The scene was described as having “blood everywhere.” This is the first recorded casualty aboard a Southwest Airlines flight.
