Halloween Movie Review

Landon Harger and Adam Shaver

On October 18, 2018, Halloween was released in theaters. The film broke records for horror movies with a $76 million box office during its opening weekend.  It is a sequel to the legendary movie that released in 1978, that goes by the same name. These films are famous for the main antagonist, Michael Myers: a psychotic murderer known for his iconic mask and blue jumpsuit.

The original Halloween tells the story of Michael who tried to kill his little sister, Laurie Strode after he broke out of the Smith Grove Sanitarium. She was able to escape him by burning him alive; though he later turned out to be alive in additional movies. This newest installment in the franchise takes place  40 years after the original and continues the story of Laurie. Though his sister in this film, Laurie is preparing for Michael’s return. Michael, who escapes during a prison transfer, appears in her town of Haddonfield, Illinois wearing his iconic mask and blue jumpsuit.

This movie is a nostalgic throwback, as it has many of the same tones, such as the classic score, overall aesthetic, and some of the original cast including Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode and Nick Castle as Michael Myers. This movie keeps up with the original, as it has all of the brutal moments and scares that the series is known for. My opinion on it is that it’s a great movie if you are into horror, but if you aren’t then I would pass but if you are a fan it is 9/10.
