The History of Halloween

     Halloween has such a rich history, but most people nowadays have no idea where Halloween comes from. This article will tell you everything you need to know about your favorite spooky holiday. Halloween originated from Ireland with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. The festival of Samhain was the day the Celts celebrated their new year which was on November 1. A sign that the end of the harvest and heading towards a period of cold and death. The Celts believed that the day before the new year was the one day the line between life and death was blurred and the dead could go to the living. Since the Celts believed the living were closer to death druids, Celtic priests, were able to make more accurate predictions of the future. In 43 A.D the Roman Empire had conquered most of the Celtic territory and had combined their own festival with Samhain. In the late 1800’s Americans borrowed the tradition from the English and Irish and began to dress up and go around asking for candy. By the 1920’s many American citizens had started to celebrate the holiday with parties on the spooking.
