October 26, a 56-year-old man named Cesar Sayoc was arrested after it was revealed he had several suspicious packages in his van. It was soon revealed that Mr. Sayoc was guilty of sending 14 packages that were rigged to injure and kill several former presidents and democratic supporters. People close to Sayoc have come out in light of the news and have shared their thoughts on him. His boss, Mrs. Debra Gureghian, said that many people liked Sayoc, but he wasn’t right in the head as he was constantly racist and vile against a lot of minorities. Sayoc’s mother, Madeline Sayoc, said that her son was mentally ill and needed serious help and that she and other family members were constantly urging him to get medical treatment for it. Mrs. Sayoc says she was deeply troubled and hurt hearing the news after she awoke from surgery. Earlier in the month, Mr. Sayoc was reported on the social media platform of Twitter for a couple of racist remarks; it has come to light that twitter’s report team did not ban Mr. Sayoc and later twitter when on to apologize for not banning him when he had broken their terms and services. If Mr. Sayoc is to be convicted of the crimes he will face up to 48 years in prison for his crimes.
