True Detective is a crime drama created and written by Nik Pizzolatto. Each season follows a different story and features new cast members. The series can be seen on HBO and is currently airing its third season. Filming of the third season has taken place in Northwest Arkansas with filming wrapping up in Fayetteville, AR. The creator of the show, Nik Pizzolatto, has deep roots here in Arkansas as he actually went to school at the University of Arkansas. Pizzolatto said that when he was writing the episodes for the third season he was envisioning it taking place in Northwest Arkansas so he said it was important to him for it to be shot and filmed there. Lead actor of the third season, Mahershala Ali, said that the landscape of Arkansas is such a big part of the story that if it were to be filmed anywhere else it would be a shame. True Detective isn’t the only party benefiting from filming being done here. The director of Arkansas Economic Development Commission said that businesses being featured in the filming of the hit HBO series would bring a lot of potential consumers here looking and buying products they might’ve seen on the show. The third season will continue airing until the season finale on February 24.
