Australia wildfires

Kiley Riggs

Since November 29, wildfires across Australia have been burning thousands of acres of land.  More than 1 billion animals have been killed so far in these fires. 350 of them being koalas. Loads of people around the country have been donating money to Australia to help stop the fires. You also have people who are risking their lives to save the animals. A women named  Toni bravely risked herself to saving a koala from the flames. She has also saved more than 35 koalas herself.

Through the months our community and from others help. We have raised a little bit over $890,000 for Australia. The fires started in various ways: some by lightning, some by human actions, including arson. However, it’s the climate conditions that provide ample fuel for the fires to grow and spread. They also believe that the main cause of the fires was dry lighting( essentially lighting from thunderstorms that don’t produce rain). They have gotten most of the fires down, but once they do something happens.

Now there are more thunderstorms and ravaged rain.  Severe thunderstorms are hitting some regions of Australia suffering from the fires with powerful rain and large hail. The storms could put relief on the firefighters, but the rain will not fall where it’s needed most. The storms are also causing new sparks which could lead to more fires. Also, the storms aren’t giving enough rain to put out the fires.  So let’s pray for the people, animals, and firefighters fighting the fires.
