Las Fallas Valencia

Kaileigh Stasser

March 15 to 19, celebrated towards the end of the Feast of Saint Joseph, the Falles festival is a mix of tradition, culture and art. The denizens of the city create huge papier-mache sculptures which they fill with gunpowder. Judges decide which sculpture is the best, and, on the final day of the festival, the winner’s sculpture is the only one that survives. The rest of the sculptures are set on fire as the city celebrates. This is followed by parades, costume parties and fireworks.
